Jalyukta Shivar Abhiyan is a flagship program of Government of Maharashtra to make Maharashtra drought free by 2019. It was launched by Hon. Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis on 5 th December 2014.
The program aims at creating decentralized water conservation structures to ensure soil moisture security. In last two years, more than 4,01,609 works have been completed in 11,493 villages. The program has been received so well by the farmers that the cost of works undertaken by the local communities voluntarily is more than Rs. 570 cr. Villagers are involved in planning, execution and monitoring of the scheme. This is one of the rarest example of a government scheme that has
turned into a people’s movement.

It is estimated 15,75,386 TCM water has been conserved through Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan during last two years which has potential to irrigate 21,21,278 hector of land.
