Maharashtra has 2nd highest tribal population in the country and their upliftment is of high priority for the government. With this view in mind, Tribal Development Department has been running Govt. Ashram Schools for the last several decades. At present, there are 502 Government Ashram Schools & 16 Eklavya Model Residential Schools catering to approximately 2 lakh students throughout the state.

Tribal Development Department has been passionately making efforts to give these students homely environment by improving infrastructure of Govt. Ashram Schools & Eklavya Model Residential Schools. Approximately 100 Government Ashram Schools are now ISO certified. To complement this program, Tribal Development Department plans to launch a comprehensive healthcare package with bouquet of initiatives. This supportive health care system shall focus on 3 aspects of health care delivery viz. Emergency Medical Services, Regular Medical Screening and Creation of health database of each and every student of abovementioned schools.

The project shall have cluster as the basic unit of operation, each cluster consisting of 5-10 schools depending upon the geographical distribution. All the government Ashram Schools have been divided into 48 clusters. This supportive health care system will include the following:
