Irregular monsoons over an extended period have resulted in frequent water scarcity for the agricultural sector. While prompt relief in times of scarcity must be provided, long-term measures to ensure prevention of such situations must be taken.

Government has decided to implement multiple programs for water conservation in an integrated manner with convergence across all the concerned departments. ”Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan” has been launched to make Maharashtra drought free by 2019. We aim to make five thousand villages drought free in the 1st year of the Abhiyan.

We look forward to getting your suggestions on how the program can be further enhanced and implemented successfully

Not sure where to suggest, so suggesting here -

Honorable sir, On one side we have a big water crisis, but we cannot deny the fact that we have huge rainfall specially in mumbai and konkan. And also the fact that the continuous rain for less than 24 hrs can create the flood like situation. So the idea is how can we use such resources to the max level. For instance, most of the rain water in Mumbai is flowing out to Arabian sea which is nothing but waste.

The Large Apartment complex and societies should make the arrangements for water harvesting tanks. Similarly they should make the arrangements for portable STPs (Sewage Treatment Plants) and with that they can reuse the treated water for washing, flushing and gardening. This will save lot of water.

For IPL matches in Maharashtra, there is lot of controversies. The Cricket Grounds are huge. They can create the huge water tank for rain harvesting and use the rain water for their purpose of maintaining pitches and grass. This must be made mandatory.

talking about irrigation comes later , firstly have to tackle acute drinking water shortage, instead of wastefully investing in cleaning canals the government should open several desalination plants along the coastline of mahaarshtra and use pipes to transport the water inland providing drinking water to every citizen in parched vidarbha and marathwada . The cost of installation and maintenance can be recovered easily . The japanese ODA loans are available at a very cheap rate .

There is more than 20% gap between water brought in the cities and actually distributed to public because of lot of leakages and theft of water. Kindly make the arrangements to avoid 20% wastage of water. This will save the water
